Sound Pure's Take

Co-designed with Peavey, this all-tube Synergy 6505 Preamp Module captures the aggressive midrange punch, tight low end, and high-gain bite of the legendary 6505 head in a compact modular format. Powered by two 12AX7 tubes, it features two identical channels, each equipped with independent Gain, Volume, 3-band EQ, and a Lead/Crunch toggle to cover everything from crunchy rhythm bite to searing leads. A 3-position PCB Cathode Select switch lets you tailor input tube bass response, while an onboard Dual/Single switch ensures compatibility with single-channel legacy modular chassis alongside standard Synergy docks.

From Synergy Amps

The Peavey 6505 – and its numerically named predecessors – are some of history’s most recorded, gigged, and modeled high-gain amp heads. Though their dual channels and articulate gain were designed for a game-changing guitarist out of 1970s Pasadena, they soon became favorites of extreme metal guitarists worldwide. Famed metal producers and engineers like Andy Sneap and Colin Richardson often discuss how the amp sits perfectly in a mix. And Guitar Player Magazine said its use on Machine Head’s Burn My Eyes “…defined a generation of guitar tone.” Today, the Peavey 6505 continues its reign as a go-to live and studio high-gain guitar amplifier.

The Synergy engineering team spent over two years working with Peavey to perfectly capture the 6505’s tone, feel, and response. This no compromise collaboration resulted in an all-tube preamp module that genuinely replicates and streamlines everything that makes the 6505 so popular. Whether you’re after the classic sounds that the amplifier was designed for or the modern high-gain it’s come to define, the Peavey 6505 module is where you’ll find it.

DUAL CHANNEL TUBE PREAMP MODULE

The Peavey 6505 module features two identical channels, each capable of nailing the amp's impressive range of grind. Both channels' Crunch setting (based on the Crunch setting of the amp's Rhythm channel) goes from bluesy breakup to hard rock punch. Lead is all about the amp's beloved red (Lead) channel, famous for its midrange articulation, low-end punch, and aggressive cut. Mirror the channels and use one as a lead boost or footswitch between old-school crunch and thick leads; either way, you get authentic, all-tube Peavey 6505 tone.

CATHODE SELECT FUNCTION:

The Peavey 6505 module features a three-position switch on the PCB, which allows you to configure the input tube bass response to match the original circuit of the selected module. This will affect the feel and tightness. Each amp designer has a specific combination of components that make up their input tube circuit. We have selected the three most popular combinations which you can access with this switch. The USA voiced modules typically use setting 1 (1.5K resistor and 22uf capacitor). British-style modules use position 2 (2.7K resistor and .68uf capacitor). The Peavey 6505, just like the Soldano and Vai modules use position 3 (1.8K resistor and 1uf capacitor). Of course, you can experiment and try any of the positions to see what you prefer.
